BORRE FOR THE MASSES
SHOW IN AMSTERDAM
(11 March 2010)
Coming Saturday (the 13th) I'm off to Amsterdam for an art show I'm having together with my friend Michiel Hoving at Sugar & Spice (Gasthuismolensteeg 8a). It would be great to see you at the opening at 16:00 hours (look here to see if any of your Facebook friends are going), but the art will be up for over a month, so if you're gonna be in Amsterdam in the coming weeks you can check out our work then as well.
(8 March 2010)
When I was a kid I became part of a hip-hop and graffiti crew called Da Phat Pack. Slowly but surely though, I'm starting to realize we aren't kids anymore (the fact that over the years pretty much all the others turned into parents helped a lot of course). My friend Lars, one of the other last Mohicans, got a baby boy now too, named Noah. Here's the illustration I made for his birth announcement card.
(20 Feb 2010)
The good folks at Mustaches For Kids in Portland, OR are organizing another 'Stache Bash next week and Mike Welch and I took care of the poster design again.
EN HEERSCHAP X
(12 Feb 2010)
The new Borre-book 'Borre en Heerschap X' that came back from the printer this month deals about a mysterious moustached gentlemen with amnesia and features Borre's homie Ovi in a wheelchair. See some of the illustrations below!
(29 Dec 2009)
Two months ago I made this painting 'Boogie Stop Shuffle' (acrylic on paper). The very cool record & book store Sugar & Spice in Amsterdam made some nice glossy postcards of it which should be available now in their shop at the Gasthuismolensteeg 8a.
EN DE KIPNAPPERS
MONKEY IN A PINTO BOWL
(17 Dec 2009)
Here's a photo of a wall I painted at the Rancho Burica in Costa Rica last week.
THOUGHT OF IT
(24 Nov 2009)
You might recognize this design, since I made it back in 2008 and posted it online before, but I finally got around to make a limited run of 25 screen prints of it, like I've been planning to do for over a year now. I'm selling them both framed (75 euro a piece) as well as unframed (50 euro a piece). The prints are 21 x 30 cm and the black wooden frames are 30 x 40 cm. Of course the prints are signed and numbered. If you're interested in one, please drop me a line at the email address at the top.
5300 WINTER SALE
(23 Nov 2009)
I'll be taking part of the Zone 5300 Winter Sale coming weekend at Studio Hergebruik in Rotterdam. Both on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th from 11:00 til 18:00 about 30 artists including Chuck Groenink and Nozzman will sell paintings, prints, t-shirts, etc. at this art fair. I'll be there with some small paintings, my 'Happy When It Rains' tote bag, some Borre merch and more. So if you still need to shop for Sinterklaas or christmas gifts, Coolsingel 53 is the place to be this weekend.
WHEN IT RAINS
(12 October 2009)
Back in August when the sun was still shining all day every day but The Jesus & Mary Chain's 'Darklands' was getting heavy rotation on my record player, I made this illustration called 'Happy When It Rains'. I had it screen printed on cotton tote bags for the art show tour last month, but I will be selling it online through the web shop on my upcoming website as well.
If you don't wanna wait for that, you can also go ahead and paypal € 5.- plus shipping costs (Netherlands: € 2.- / Europe: € 4.- / World: € 6.-) to stefan at stefantijs dot com. I'm not sure if it will look as good on you as it does on my robot friend François below, but of course there's nothing wrong with being the second best looker around either!
(8 Oct 2009)
Look at this! Borre is a t-shirt now too! 3 colour screen print on organic cotton by Fruit Of The Loom. Available from www.borre.nl in 4 different kid sizes.
EN HET BEDROG VAN BOETIEK SPOETNIEK
(4 Oct 2009)
I illustrated another great Jeroen Aalbers story about Borre and co. It's titled 'Borre en het bedrog van Boetiek Spoetniek' and among many other things it includes walkie talkies, people dressed up as bunnies, spraycans, fur coats (which Borre and his friends of course disapprove of) and french fries (which Borre and his friends of course have no problem with at all). See some of the illustrations below.
(3 Sept 2009)
In the coming weeks I'm having a few art shows across Europe with my friends Kepi and Dino from Sacramento, CA. Check the poster below for more info. If you happen to live in or near Düsseldorf, La Spezia or Salsomaggiorre Terme it would be great to see you there. At all these art shows there will be acoustic live performances by Kepi and I will be spinning some records. In La Spezia highly talented local Riccardo Buchioni will have art up as well.
(1 Sept 2009)
I made the cover illustration for the new issue of 'Lekker Puh!', one of the magazines of RotterdamPas. It should be out now and available throughout this lovely and ever friendly city. Thanks to Studio Beige.
(27 Aug 2009)
Like Jerry and I weren't busy enough already, we started working on a Borre spin-off about his furry pet Pluisdier het huisdier. This series will be for those little girls and boys called pre-schoolers and we just finished the first book. Here's a few of the illustrations I made for it.
HIDES AN ELEPHANT
(24 Aug 2009)
We finished another Borre book. This one's called 'Borre verstopt een olifant' in which our little hero helps out an elephant who's playing hide & seek with a mouse in his backyard.
(17 Aug 2009)
After the very entertaining Brune a year and a half ago, my friends Sophie and Sietse just got another baby girl! Her name is Dorus Foekje Heslinga and I made this illustration for the birth announcement card.
(14 Aug 2009)
We've been working on a stuffed version of Borre for a while, so I'm very happy to tell you he's finally here! He's made of huggable cotton flannel and available from the webshop over at www.borre.nl
(26 March 2009)
I've got two posters up at a Poster Show at Hoodlums in Tempe, Arizona. The opening is this Saturday (March 28th) from 7 to 10 pm and the show runs till May 31st. If you live or wander around those parts, check it out!
GHOULIE & JERRY HORMONE 7"
(3 Oct 2008)
I made the sleeve art (mixed media on paper, mainly gouache though) for a 7" called 'The Lives And Loves Of Kepi Ghoulie & Jerry Hormone'. The EP is out now on Stardumb Records and contains 3 great songs which can be heard over at Last.fm.
